After an 11-month journey, the jury will determine the winners of the\u00a0Tartget Prize<\/strong>\u00a0this Tuesday, May 13. The first phase of this initiative began last June, culminated in March with the close of submissions, and concluded two weeks later with the selection of finalists.<\/p>

Hundreds of participants from across the globe presented their work before a panel of over 20 international jurors based on five continents, including\u00a0Jason Anderson, Don Eddy, Leigh Benke, and Fletcher Sibthorp<\/strong>. Now, the in-person jury will evaluate the\u00a0100 shortlisted works<\/strong>\u00a0chosen from nearly 500 finalists.<\/p>

The top pieces of the\u00a02025 edition<\/strong>\u00a0have already earned the distinction of being exhibited at Madrid\u2019s\u00a0Ateneo<\/strong>, but their creators hope to take the stage at the\u00a0June 5 gala<\/strong>\u00a0to claim one of the\u00a014 main awards<\/strong>\u2014a decision that will be made in the coming days.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Tartget<\/strong>\u00a0attracted submissions from\u00a085 countries<\/strong>, spanning\u00a0Mexico to Japan, with notable participation from\u00a0South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, and Singapore.<\/p>

  • Spain<\/strong>\u00a0led in submissions, followed by\u00a0France, Italy, the United States, Germany, and China<\/strong>\u2014each represented by at least\u00a050 works<\/strong>.<\/p><\/li>

  • Other prolific contributors included\u00a0Belgium, Canada, Romania, and Argentina.<\/p><\/li>

    The Anselma and Laf\u00f3n halls<\/strong> of Madrid’s prestigious institution will host a distinguished gathering of artists, including some of the country’s most renowned figures<\/strong>. The exhibition, which will be displayed in the heart of UNESCO’s Landscape of Light<\/strong> from June 5 to 13<\/strong>, will bring together works by creators such as Shana Levenson, Agnieszka Kotarska, Andrii Kovalyk, Sheila Flaherty, Theo Felizzola, Konstantin Kachev, Michela Bogoni, and Kazuya Ushioda (winner of ModPortrait 2024).<\/p>\n

    One of the most notable aspects of this first edition is the prominent role played by Japanese artists. Of the 15 works submitted by Japanese creators, 4 have been ranked among the top 100. The talent of these artists from the Land of the Rising Sun will be well represented at Madrid’s Ateneo.<\/p>\n

    Thirty-eight Spanish artists<\/strong> dream of lifting the golden heart award<\/strong> in the spectacular C\u00e1tedra Mayor of the Ateneo<\/strong>. Among them are established names such as Haitz de Diego (Ondarroa, 1979), Marcos Rey (Madrid, 1975), Maribel Manzanares (Seville, 1968), Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Pe\u00f1a Gallardo (C\u00f3rdoba, 1965), Jes\u00fas Ingl\u00e9s (Valencia, 1971), and David S\u00e1nchez (Barcelona, 1978).<\/p>\n

    The exhibition features predominantly veteran artists, many born in the 1970s. Particularly noteworthy is Isidro L\u00f3pez Murias (Tetouan, 1939), who holds a cum laude doctorate in Fine Arts and whose career – begun in 1964 – will receive well-deserved recognition in Madrid.<\/strong><\/p>\n

    In the “Young Painters” category, six artists under 25 will compete for the Gold, Silver and Bronze Target awards: the Anglo-German Cameron Copley-Heissig (London, 2003), Italian Rachele Moneta (Milan, 2001), Colombian Laura Espinosa (Bogot\u00e1, 2002), and Spaniards Nil Masip (Barcelona, 2006), Natalia Rodr\u00edguez (Zaragoza, 2004), and Eduardo S\u00e1nchez Ganza (Cartagena, 2012)<\/strong>, a 12-year-old prodigy<\/strong> passionate about Japanese culture<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    Their works will share space with those of Teresa Lapayese (Madrid, 1957), a copyist at the Prado Museum and specialist in still lifes, whose work forms part of the Spanish Royal Family’s private collection.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

    Selecting the winning work will be no easy task.<\/strong>\u00a0Will the honor go to an\u00a0autumn still life<\/strong>, an\u00a0urban landscape<\/strong>, or perhaps a\u00a0figure drawn with colored pencils?<\/strong> The\u00a0in-person jury<\/strong>\u2014composed of\u00a0Jacob Dhein, Aurelio Rodr\u00edguez, Ferm\u00edn Garc\u00eda Sevilla, Arantzazu Mart\u00ednez, and Mar\u00eda Lizaso<\/strong>\u2014will convene on\u00a0May 13 in Daimiel (Ciudad Real)<\/strong>\u00a0to deliberate.<\/p>

    The choice of location is no coincidence<\/strong>, as this\u00a0Castilian-La Mancha<\/strong>\u00a0town is home to the competition’s three creators: the painter and entrepreneur\u00a0Juan Francisco G\u00f3mez Cambronero<\/strong>, the journalist and writer\u00a0Ismael Terriza<\/strong>, and the audiovisual creator\u00a0Jos\u00e9 Luis S\u00e1nchez Monta\u00f1\u00e9s<\/strong>.<\/p>

    Moreover,\u00a0the Ateneo exhibition will be replicated in Daimiel two weeks later<\/strong>. This showcase\u2014distributed between the\u00a0Casino de las Armon\u00eda<\/strong>\u00a0and the\u00a0Casa de Cultura<\/strong>\u2014will rival what was seen in Spain’s capital.\u00a0La Mancha<\/strong>, therefore, plays a significant role in\u00a0Tartget Prize<\/strong>: in its organization, among participants, and particularly among its most notable ones.<\/p>

    In the\u00a0Top 100<\/strong>, we find\u00a0La Mancha artists<\/strong>\u00a0like\u00a0Javier Mart\u00edn Aranda (Bola\u00f1os de Calatrava, 1983)<\/strong>, one of Spain’s greatest specialists in speed painting with over 100 first prizes, and\u00a0Feliciano Moya (Aldea del Rey, 1961)<\/strong>, a master of landscapes. Also present are\u00a0Pedro Miguel P\u00e9rez Villegas (Manzanares, 1960)<\/strong>,\u00a0Ana Guti\u00e9rrez (C\u00f3rdoba, 1975)<\/strong>\u00a0from Mora (Toledo), the brilliant watercolorist\u00a0Juan Saturio (Malag\u00f3n, 1987)<\/strong>, and\u00a0Ram\u00f3n Aguirre (Daimiel, 1953)<\/strong>\u2014though the latter’s fate will be decided 24 hours earlier, when the three members of the physical jury meet to choose the winner of the\u00a0Fusion Tartget<\/strong>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

    Westby’s\u00a0semi-sculptural, effects-driven screen<\/strong>\u00a0is one of the\u00a015 works competing for the Fusion Tartget<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 an award that will honor the most outstanding creation in the\u00a0c<\/strong>onceptual\/collage and abstraction categories. Among these artists is\u00a0German J\u00f6rg Pamer, based in\u00a0Torrox (M\u00e1laga), a multifaceted creator accompanied by one of the competition’s most curious facts: his wife\u00a0Danja Pamer\u00a0also appears in the\u00a0Ateneo’s Top 100\u00a0with her\u00a0“Sunflowers”<\/em>, a dazzling piece competing in the\u00a0Still Life category. Who knows if both the\u00a0Gold Tartget\u00a0and\u00a0Fusion Tartget\u00a0might find their home in a\u00a0Costa del Sol display case\u00a0come\u00a0June 6.<\/p>

    The\u00a0Fusion award recipient<\/strong>\u00a0will be determined by three appointed judges for\u00a0Tartget Prize 2025<\/strong>:\u00a0Emilio Gil, Mercedes Lara, and G\u00f3mez-Cambronero<\/strong>\u00a0(the competition’s director and a figurative painter with brilliant forays into conceptual art, as demonstrated in his works exhibited at the\u00a0European Parliament in Brussels<\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0November 2023<\/strong>). These three will evaluate the candidates on\u00a0Monday, May 12<\/strong>, during a\u00a0closed-door session<\/strong>\u00a0at\u00a0Madrid’s Ateneo<\/strong>. Their assessments will crown the\u00a0Fusion Tartget<\/strong>\u00a0winner.     On the afternoon of Thursday, June 5, all will be decided.<\/strong>\u00a0The awards gala, to be held in the\u00a0C\u00e1tedra Mayor of Madrid’s Ateneo<\/strong>, will mark the grand finale of\u00a0Tartget Prize’s inaugural edition<\/strong>. The evening will be hosted by\u00a0Lorena Berd\u00fan<\/strong>\u2014the renowned Spanish psychologist, sexologist, TV presenter, and actress\u2014who will serve as master of ceremonies before an audience of\u00a0over 300 guests<\/strong>. Attendees will also enjoy a trumpet performance by\u00a0Manuel Blanco<\/strong>, soloist of the\u00a0Spanish National Orchestra<\/strong>\u00a0and international concert artist, accompanied on piano by Ukrainian performer\u00a0Margarita Kozlovska<\/strong>.<\/p>

    In the theater’s auditorium,\u00a0most of the painters<\/strong>\u2014who will have attended the exhibition’s opening that same afternoon\u2014will gather.\u00a0A hundred works<\/strong>\u00a0will adorn walls just\u00a0steps away from Madrid’s iconic museums<\/strong>: the\u00a0Prado, Thyssen, and Reina Sof\u00eda<\/strong>.
